Bakhtiari/Luri tribal and village rugs

The Lurs are an ancient Iranian people who speak a language that is apparently the closest living relative to Archaic Farsi. The Bakhtiari are a subgroup of the Luri ethnicity.  Living in Western Iran near the city of Isfahan, these traditionally semi-nomadic people are now mostly settled.

In general, Bakhtiari/Luri rug production can be divided into two categories: tribal, geometric pieces woven by semi-nomadic people and classically inspired floral pieces woven in the Chahar Mahal district of west-central Iran.
